Tip #7:  Re-Read Favorite Books!

This tip is short and sweet!  Reading favorite books over and over again is not only enjoyable for your child, but it can strengthen reading skills immensely.  For beginning readers, the ability to re-read books allows for increased fluency, intonation and overall confidence.  The experience of re-reading books aloud to your child is also advantageous!  Here, your child can discover new vocabulary, new story details and increased comprehension with each reading.

It is common for parents of beginning readers to discourage their child from reading the same book over and over because they think they have it “memorized”.  Ironically, the act of re-reading a familiar book can only help young readers gain the skills, confidence and independence needed to grow as a reader!
