Event review – Stepping Stones Museum August 16, 2010

On Thursday evening I spoke with parents and educators about getting children excited about reading! The event was at Stepping Stones Museum in Norwalk, CT (which is an amazing discovery museum for children with great educational resources for parents).

I had the best time talking about ways to get children motivated as readers.  I also met some incredible mom and dads who are searching for ideas and suggestions to help their children learn to read and love to read.

One thing I realized in answering many questions that night is that teachers shouldn’t assume that parents know anything about teaching reading.  Likewise, we as parents should feel like we can ask our child’s teacher any question at all.  Parents can make a huge difference in the reading lives of their children.   It was so inspiring to meet so many parents who want to try to make that difference.
